Very early in my life I was obsessed w/scuba diving, long before laws requiring professional training before buying equipment. I learned breathing atmospheric air at depths over 100 ft produced text book symptoms of ‘rupture of the deep’. An alleged aray of confusing neurological afflictions causing severe diver safety issues. Jacques Cousteau and myself learned not so, rapture of the deep, aka nitrogen narcosis is the accumulation of nitrogen held w/in the intravascular system by the extra pressure found below 100ft. It is an initial feeling of a warm an generous narcotics glow that isn’t a narcotic..I could so often find refuge sitting there at a 120ft shit eating grin and all knowing there was a place to go for that so called drink and forget the world above.
